Going green can be easier then you think. There are a lot of little things you can do to live a greener life.
1. Reuse the plastic bags you get when you go shopping, or buy a canvas bag and use that each time instead.
2. Recycle the items that you would normally just throw into the garbage bin. Most areas have a free recycling program, just place the recyclable items in a separate bin next to your garbage.
3. Eat local produce from the farmers market or other local grocers.
4. Unplug unused electronics and appliances when they aren't in use. Standby mode uses more energy then you think. You can lower your bills and save energy by unplugging toasters, microwaves, TVs and other items when they're not in use.
5. When washing your clothes, use the cold or warm temperature setting. Modern detergents will work fine at these lower temperatures.
6. Invest in a digital thermostat which can be set to automatically lower and raise the temperature gradually as needed throughout the day. This will make a big difference in energy savings.
7. If you have a garden, use compost rather then buying traditional chemical based fertilizers.
Going green doesn't have to be a difficult transition. The little things you do now will help our environment for years to come.
